It may be more manageable if you wet it down first, not with a spray, but a gently rain-type setting on the nozzle.  Why not try to find a service that can take care of it at no cost.  There may be something out there.  Or, try putting vinegar on the leaves...just a few drops would probably be good.  It will travel to the roots and kill it.  I'm out of ideas now.

Oh, maybe city poison control can take care of it.

That first link leads to a very informative article. Thanks. have not checked the second link yet. I go now to look at the article that second link leads to. Cumulative effects can build up through multiple exposure; so I need to look into that, and learn what I can about that.

I will be looking up removal of the plants, plus home treatment methods, and whether or not there really is a cumulative effect. I was told by a doctor, but did he really know what he was talking about?

Well, I don't know about effects of multiple exposures to milkweed, but multiple damages to skin are cumulative.  Even sunburns you got as a child  and through the years are cumulative.

Hmm. Seems a bit scary, that second article does.
Did you say to spray vinegar on the plant to help kill it? Will pickle juice work?

Unless there's nothing you want growing next to the plant, I wouldn't spray.  Just use a cheap paint brush (like for kids crafts) and apply it directly to some of the leaves.  Use white vinegar.  I don't think it needs to be a lot, but I'm no expert in this field.  I just know that I was told by someone who was an exprert to apply vinegar to weeds.  If it's large areas and you dont care about what else is around it, like pavestone walks or patios, that have it growing, then use a sprayer, maybe even make a 1-to-1 mixture of white vinegar and water in a pump sprayer and go to town on it.  Otherwise, just put some on the leaves of each stalk.  It should wither within a couple days and then destroy it.  I tried this on something once and it withered in a day or two.

Did it kill the roots? As I cannot get too close, I'd need a way to make sure it won't come back.
Much as I love the Monarch Butterfly, and I understand it to be an endangered species, that relies on milkweed to reproduce, and for nutrition; I think my health supersedes the need to preserve the Monarchs in the area.

I went and looked again around all the homes near mine, and it is true that my home is the only one that has it growing. Also I for some more juvenile plants, so it is definitely in the process of multiplying.

We have some large thick black garbage bags. If I were to get one out and, using extreme caution, put it over the plants and then pull them up, do you think it will get the roots too?

To kill our weeds I use boiling water and dissolve salt in it...then add the vinegar and poor on the weeds...repeat if needed...that kills our weeds right down to the roots Agent.

My gardener neighbor told me he knows how to remove the plant. When I showed him my leg, he was surprised. Said it looked like a big red beet. And it really does! He said he'd remove it for me as soon as he could. So I'm leaving it to him. Just not wanting anymore exposure, as it is causing me a lot of trouble.
