Welcome to The Big Picture Challenge Thread 2024 - Cloudy Subjects!


In this challenge all images submitted must have clouds of one kind or another, and they must partially hide something within them. Fog, Haze, Cumulus, Cirrus, Stratus, Nimbus, Dust and Funnel Clouds all exist on Earth; however, there are other kinds of clouds you can throw in. Nebulae, and Galaxies are also considered to be clouds of a type.
Image sizes must be no less than 1500 px either horizontally or vertically. The other dimension can be less. Please keep the file sizes at or below what is allowed.
Keep your images PG, as kids can and do view these threads.


To start it off, here is my first one:
Hidden Land Under Cloud


A permanent cloud covers a large land mass on a planet outside of the Sombrero Galaxy. The explorers cannot even see what is there, using the most advance scanning technology! Away teams could not find a way to get to the land mass, and it is definitely there, as sometimes mountain peaks reveal themselves poking out of the top of the cloud. Today is not one of those days, other than the fact that no way has yet been found to get to that land.


Why do they want to go there? Just for the sake of insatiable curiosity!

A few more, both posts are older images as I have not really been rendering much lately.

The lander was sent down to check on the colony that was started over 50 years ago.  However, on the way down the crew found that the extremely dense clouds hid any sign of where the colony was on the planet.  Strangely the sensors are not picking up any sign of electronic activity either...   Time to leave.  This investigation should be left to the Space Force.
