While This thread is not normally for anything other than large resolution images, your animation is awesome, and I will let it stand here. I downloaded it, because it is so fantastically real looking.


Terragen seems to be an awesome app, and you have me wanting it. Excellent!

And I am not even on commission .. 
Considering that was made up of 480 .tif files, each of just over 500KB, I am amazed the mp4 only came out to be 781KB! (Thanks Image Magick!)

Simon, I am wanting to download the free version of Terragen, and they require being registered at the site. When I go to try registering it is not letting me complete the entering of the needed information. I wonder if you could help me get registered. I know when I have the money, I will buy the full version.

Hyper Space Pixie


There is a wicked creature that has a natural ability to enter hyper space at will. Once in hyper space these creatures will seek out any ships that travel within it, and what they do to those ships is evil beyond all imagination. They are called Gremlins by some, Hyper Hornets by others, Space Demons by yet others, but the most prominent name for them is Hyper Space Pixies. Just for the evil joy of it, they will attack a ship in hyper space, and proceed to tear it apart. one thing they try to get at is the hyper drive unit, and when they do, it is ripped out of the ship while still active. The ship is still in hyper space even without its hyper drive unit. The effect of this is one of two extremely horrible fates, massive and very rapid expansion into all of the hyperspace dimension, or equally rapid size reduction into the quantum realm. In both cases the pain is excruciating for whatever occupies those unfortunate ships, and it lasts for thousands of years. meanwhile the wicked Hyper Space Pixie laughs with evil glee at the suffering it has caused.


Because this was discovered by a human crew when they barely escaped with their lives, these evil creatures are now known. The different species that were traveling in hyper space studied them and learned their secrets. Now ships are equiped with another type of FTL drive, called Warp Drive. Thus far no ship equipped this way has been attacked. But there are still some species that still travel in hyper space, and they are still suffering these attacks. Humans and other species are now on a mission to rescue these unfortunate species from the ravages of the evil Hyper Space Pixies, and to make them suffer their own evils. But so far only three of these creatures have fallen victim to their own wicked ways.


Recently I grabbed the Power Pixie product pack at DAZ. It is up in the Weekly Freebies for the first week in December.
I decided to use it in my out of the box way of imagining unusual ideas, and this is what I came up with. After loading the Power Pixie and selecting a shape for it, I used a pattern displacement shader on it to make its skin look seriously deformed, then a added in the diffuse channel a texture I made in Amberlight 2, to give it a multicolored look. Another Amberlight 2 image was used as the backdrop for this image. I created two distant lights, coloring one light green, and the other red. Only the light green one has shadows enabled. The Power Pixie is in a flying pose. I think this turned out better that I expected.

There may have been too many trying to download it. I just tried it and when I click this lin: https://planetside.co.uk/free-downloads/terragen-4-free-download/  then the download button under the image. It popped up a little window to enter my email address then I clicked the download button in that window and I got the download links page.

Try again, I never got a registration page at all.

Well this is a site I would like to keep in touch with, and I do hope to buy the paid version in the future. I can do similar work in Bryce, but this app appears to do photorealistic better than Bryce can.

Well it said "Free Version Download". perhaps I was on the wrong webpage? DarkAngel checked for me, and told me she was able to get it without registering. So I may not be on the right page. I'll look back through this thread to where you posted the link, and try from there. I really want Terragen. I have Bryce 7.1 Pro, but it is a 32 bit app, I understand that Terragen is 64 bit. Bryce has served me quite well, and will continue to be used by me, as it has even won me a few art contests, plus I know a lot about how it works. Even so, it would be nice to have a comparable 64 bit app that does similar renders, though from what I have seen, the renders looks much better. It shows the difference between 32 bit versus 64 bit. Not that my renders in Bryce are not great looking, because they are. What it boils down to is the fact that being experienced as I am in Bryce, I know where to look to see any flaws that may appear in a render. Bryce does have some render flaws. In what I have seen in your Terragen rendeers, I have not yet found any. Yours look totally photographic!

Ok, I have gone to look, and all the 'buttons' that are for downloading the free version go to a pop-up window that overlays the current webpage that requests an email address. I did not progress further but I think that is all they do, so it's not exactly registering ... I am not sure if they send you stuff after the evnt, but having registered myself, etc., I can honestly say I have had few, if any, emails from them. Drop me a PM on here if you are stil interested and I will let you know one of my emails that you can use and if I get anything back relevant to the use of the free version I will pass it on.

I'm still interested, but don't worry about me. I'll get it sooner or later. At this time of year I have a lot on my to do list, and getting another 3D art app is taking a back seat. DarkAngel says she had no troubles getting the free version without having to register, so I will likely follow her example, when I am able to take the time to do so.
