I hope your headache is gone now. I know what those sinus headaches are like, because I get them too. Usually around this time of the year, the pollen affects me big time. Mostly goldenrod and ragweed. This year I've had a few, but surprisingly no really bad ones yet. (Knocking on wood here!)

Nocturn The Night Hunter


He patrols the city by night, traveling via high-rise rooftops. His highly trained skills make it appear that he has superhuman abilities, but he is only a man with access to advanced technologies, that he uses in his endeavors. He hunts the dark areas, during the nights in the city, for the truly monstrous evil that lurks there. When he finds these monsters, he dispatches them with extreme prejudice, making sure they will never victimize others again.

IGA Battle Carrier at Whirlpool Galaxy


The known Universe has conflict happening somewhere in it all the time, and this makes it neccessary for those that are traveling intergalactic space to be prepared with protection type space vessels. A ship that is unarmed is susceptible to attack, and possible destruction. Even ships that are seemingly invulnerable to attack cannot truly know if there is no enemy that can penetrate their defenses. It has been said, "Where there is a will, there is a way!" This is no less true in the theater of conflict.


So it is that in the Inter-Galactic Alliance (IGA), ships of extreme design being very well armed are most definitely needed. To that end, a design that is a ship larger physically than the largest city on Earth has been designed, and several have been built, each being armed better than most other ships of the time. It's armament is not just the builtin weaponry of multiple types, but the ability to deploy from its interior an entire battalion of large battleships, all armed to the teeth. This ship is able to carry as many as 200,000 such ships, and many of those carry battle craft of their own. Fully deployed, the battalion can form a cloud that is as much as half a lightyear across containing up to 10,000,000 vessels of various size and capability. So when an enemy force sees one of these Battle Carriers, they normally back down from their planned attack.


One Battle Carrier has exited Extra Dimensional Space just outside the Whirlpool Galaxy; appearing suddenly, with no warning. Soon, the ship will deploy a large number of the ships it carries, sufficient to handle the forces that threaten to invade the galaxy. Many of the enemy ships are now preparing to vacate their positions, rather than face the might of the force that just arrived. When the enemy ships that are remaining see their neighboring ship running, and leaving them to face the superior force, it is likely that they too will turn and run. This will be acceptable to the IGA, as they really do not wish to be engaged in battle. That said, if a ship or two of the enemy decides to engage, There will be far more than those ships can handle brought to bear against them. It would be a foolish decision on the part of the commanders of those ships.


In any case, the presence of the Battle Carrier serves as a deterrent to war, rather than a harbinger of it. It shows the readiness of the IGA to protect its member species without fail.

Whirlpool Galaxy - Made from an astronomy photo pasted on a Bryce Primitive Square that has been modified to fit the image pasted on it.
Lighting provided by the Bryce Skylab Library edited to make the image large enough to fill a render window that is 16:9 aspect ratio.
Rendered in Bryce 7.1 Pro.
Render Time: 5 hours 27 minutes, 14 seconds.
To brighten and enhance the image, it was opened in PD Howler and the filter for adjusting Hue, Saturation, and Strength was used.

If it was in the Winner's Thread, I could not find it, nor did I get a notification in my email. I usually do get one, as I have notifications from all the threads I visit here enabled. That makes it easy to get to what the notification is about.
