Languishing ignored.  And there is a problem that keeps happening and the tech teams have told me they can't figure it out because it's intermittent.  I'm thinking of closing it when the SSL certificate is up for renewal.  Why bother, nobody is interested?  And I can't keep vendors or testers.  The Big 2 (DAZ and Renderosity) are winning, despite my plan to offer quality products at a decent price and giving vendors higher percentage so that they'd make more profit at the lower prices than at other places, and customers would be happy with the prices, too!  It's been too long, and I'm tired.

Pretty much the same reasons I gave up my Wedding Photography Business... It's hard these days.  Digital cameras did me in... and no one wanted to PAY for a photographer... no matter how nice I made the wedding dress look or pose the peeps... Ughh... That was over 20years ago... best decision I ever made.

When I tried selling stuff at Daz they were very picky... It takes me a looooooong time to put a product together and being shot down by Daz just brought me down... so I quit.  So I just dabble for ME... and the Holiday Gift page at FA.  Less stress.  ;)

Hello Sanbie!!!  So great to see you popping in to say HI...   Keep the artwork coming.  I've been struggling with Daz and some things I can get to work and some things I can't.  I got my son to put together a top of the line computer for me so that I could use both Poser and Daz and lately I've been creating backgrounds that I hope to maybe sell in the FA store.. but we'll see.. it's fun anyway.

I had a photography business, too.  Did weddings for about six years.  Also did portraits and model shoots (only once for pay).  And scenic work, some of which I sold to a resort in NH.  Started in mid 1980s.  At the end, I had a larger ad in the yellow pages, ad on the Sports & Soaps pamphlets sometimes found in stores and malls, an ad on a vinyl phone book cover (yes, they used to make those...phone books, I mean!), and an ad on a local church bulletin, a large church who told me that their parishioners were very loyal to their advertisers.  But times started to be tough and the calls just dried up.  I had to change my phone number to get out of the yellow pages ad.  I worked out of my apartment, so didn't have a huge overhead.

Near the end of my run, an illustrator called me to show my work and put in a bid for a commercial job.  The company had done a catalog with photography years before, and the photographer did artsy shots, which are not good for catalog work.  They switched back to illustration.  but the guy convinced them to try again and assured them that he'd be the art director.  I won the bid.  It was for Newport Harbor Coats, makers of London Fog.  They loved my work, they loved how photography showcased their products.  So much so that they decided to use photography from then on...in NY City!

What did you use for weddings?  My kit was a Hasselblad CM500 with two 220 backs and one 120 back, fast winder crank, prism finder, and Lumedyne flash system with two mini batteries, and a Stroboframe mount.  I also got a 2x converter and a bellows type lens hood that took filters and things from Spiratone.  That was my basic kit.  Later I got a wide angle lens, and a Polaroid film back for test shots, mostly used when doing portraits.  That basic kit cost me $2,500 at the time (about 1985).  I had two Canon A1 bodies with several lenses, and a fast winder attached to one of them.  But when I did an experiment one time in NH, hiked up a ledge and shot Attitash Mtn. from the same position with the Canon and the Hasselblad, and got the films developed and printed 11x14 from them...the Hasselblad print was so much sharper that I decided to use that for all my scenics after that.  The 2.25" square negative was so much larger than a 35mm one, it made a huge difference!  The only bigger thin I ever used was a Toyo 4x5 view camera (uses 4x5 sheet film).  I rented it one time to do some commercial type still shots.  Wow!  16x20 prints were so amazingly sharp and vibrant!

Couldn't give away the Hasselblad today.  A friend checked on Ebay years ago, and it was pathetic what they were selling for.

I suppose we could chat for days about our photography days Dana... lol.  I used 2 x 2 for my weddings... and portrait work... Mamayia... and a YachikaMat.  Cheap cheap... but they worked.  (sorry can't remember how to spell them)... I am not into cameras... just wanted something that took nice wedding photos... but like I said... once digital came around... peeps were pushing me aside to get THEIR shots.  ughh... Anyway... Back to this thread.... Feel free to message me if you wanna chat about photography.. but I'm not that into the equipment... Now I use my phone.... lol
