I know this thread was started in January and noone has really started asking you questions Deni but I'm ready to start.. you mentioned that you would be explaining this stuff you talked about in the first post

I can help with the material room in Poser, show you how to connect up a node and show you about bump maps etc, i'll even share some of my node set ups with you if you want.

and then I want to learn how to make a pose file in Poser.

Sorry i'm late in seeing this.
At the moment, what i would do if i was you was open one of our outfits
that iv'e textured and have the outfit that you're texturing open and go
into the advanced material room, click on the top of one of the nodes, click
select all, you'll see they all highlighted, right click copy then go to your outfit
in the material room, get rid of anything that's already in there, right click
then paste in the empty space. Once you've done that change any textures
i have in there like the one joined to the diffuse node and the bump map. If
it had a transparency, delete that one by clicking on the top of it, right click,
delete.
Now you might not have made a bump map so have a look at a few different
ones of mine in your paint program, all i do is open the texture i made in
Stitch Witch in PS, save it to the appropriate folder in your textures folder so
you can open it in the Poser material room. Then i click on image on the top
tool bar, down to adjustment then down to desaturate. THEN i click on image
on the top tool bar again, down to adjustments then down to levels which
in mine is the first one in the list. I play with the sliders to get the result i want
in Poser. It can be a hit and miss, sometimes it has taken me hours to get
the bump right, some people just click on desaturate but to be honest, it doesn't
give you a good bump map for most things, sometimes the darker areas need
darkening so they show up more in Poser or sometimes they need lightening
so they don't show up as really bumpy in Poser. Once you've got it right just save
it to the texture folder you put the original texture in and you can then replace
the one in the material room if you used my node set up.
Just a note though, don't copy other peoples node set ups without permission,
apparently they don't like it but i don't mind as long as someone asks.

Also some of the numbers on the nodes might need adjusting and again, that's a
hit and miss thing, i'm really no expert, i just load them up and if it looks good
i'll save it lol.
Have a good look at what iv'e done with the nodes, what images iv'e put where
and what colours iv'e used if any, once you do this a few times it becomes second
nature..

I'm not feeling well right now but this is something I'm going to work on in the next few weeks and hopefully by the time I can afford to get the Shader Works Library Manager I'll know what I'm doing.. lol.  Oh and I'm printing off all of this stuff so I can refer to it when I have Poser up because right now it's not too clear what I should be doing.. lol.

Love your copy nodes hint Deni.... I tried it this morning because I am creating textures for an outfit that has two skirts, shoes, and top.

I could easily copy the trim from one to the other.  And since I have eight colors it certainly will save time.

I know that some people don't like you copying their nodes but as long as they are not named (with shader spider you can rename them)  I don't know how they would know that you copied them. But it is always best to ask.   :Duh:

If you changed them slightly and renamed them would that make them your own?

Surely it would...because you could have come to the same results as them anyway!

Beware that if you copy a set of nodes that includes an image map you may have to purchase the original merchant resource to legally use that image..........  (but you can replace it with another image and use just the coloring presets.

That works too.

I often will use a uvmap for the bump and use the coloring nodes from something I really like.  The bump will change the look and as long as you replace any of the images they used in creating the texture they can't claim the nodes as theirs (you could come up with the same ones with a little work).    And the uvmap bump and be used with different colors to create different textures.

You have to have uvmapper(it's free) and then you open the obj and save the template...
