Lets learn how to texture folks.
« on: January 25, 2011, 09:28:05 PM »
Ok as promised last year here's our "learn how to texture" thread.
First of all look at this product here.
It is very nice but all it is is a flood fill and i know you lot can do that and
if they can sell them then so can you!
All we need is a paint program like Psp, Photoshop, The gimp etc and Daz Studio and/or Poser.
If you have Stitch Witch then thats a bonus, if not then Uv mapper will do, you can get that
free here.
For those that can't work out how to make a template with Uv mapper or Stitch Witch i'll make
them for you, if i don't have the product you want to texture then you'll have to send me the
Obj file, nothing else so it's not like you're sharing the item with me, i can't personally do anything
with an Obj file except make templates.
Now you have to pick an outfit you want to texture, don't make it a hard one to start with, work
your way up slowly, some of Sanbies freebies will be great for this but it can be something you love
that you've brought.
I can help with the material room in Poser, show you how to connect up a node and show you about
bump maps etc, i'll even share some of my node set ups with you if you want.
Sadly i can't show you how to use DS shaders but i'm sure one of our wonderful Dazzers will be able
to help.
So come on, get excited, new year, new challenge, lets go!!

:dance112: :HappyDance: :dance112: Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with and hoping someone has figured out the new daz shadermixer cuz I certainly haven't...it just confuses me. I did my mertail texture the old fashioned way, in psp.. and I HAVE stitchwitch just too lazy to go through learning it well enough to be comfortable with it....

I have a question (on making textures).  Why do the templates have to be so huge? What difference does it make if they are smaller...like 500 rather then 1200 and up?

Sorry I have been down with this stupid throat thing..... Feel like shit...

I posted this link in another post somewhere... small tutorial on what I do when texturing in PSP.

http://www.graphicsbypati.com/posertutorials/Creatingposertextures/creatingtexturetemplate.htm

I should be around to answer questions and I sure would love to learn how to do textures for Daz studio (especially semi transparent ones (where part of a material is semi transparent and the other part is not).

I hope you feel better soon too, nothing worse than being sick  :group hug1:
That you for the tut and when you're ready we'll try and help you with your
transparancy.
But basically semi transparent is a shade of grey instead of black, so the
sections you want semi just experiment with different shades of grey until
you get the look you want..I hope that helps and that is what you were asking..

Pam and I tried that with a product but it just would not work in Daz Studio.

Both would be put into your geometries folder Trixie then you'd have to import
them into Poser using the File/Import option for a obj..

Hmmm, well I get them into the geometries alright, will have to check in about importing into my Poser folder through Daz though, have never done this step before.  Thanks Deni for the info.
