Title: June Showoff Thread 2022
Post by: Agent0013 on June 01, 2022, 01:54:18 AM
Welcome to the June Showoff Thread! Post all of your wonderful images here for all of us to see and comment on. Remember to keep it PG, as kids can and do view these threads.
The June Challenge, should you wish to participate is to include a vehicle of any type in your scene. You may have as many other things as you wish for this challenge. The way you choose to include a vehicle will be completely up to you.

To get the thread off to a good start, I'm posting an image I did back in 2020, when I first got the Bot Moto product from DAZ. I had to do a mock advertisement for this one.

Bot Moto - The Most Exhilerating Ride Ever

Motorcycles have always been vehicles that offer a sense of freedom to their riders. Whether you are a man or a woman, if you are an afficianado, you know how it feels to be on the open road, wind in your hair, riding your motorized steed.

Now you can have that on the road or in the air, all in one ride...
Bot Moto! This is a bike that can cruise along the roads and trails with the best of the best; and if you want added fun, just flip a switch, and your Bot Moto transforms into a flying ride! In this mode you can travel even faster, for a ride that is more exhilarating than it has a right to be!

So head on down to your local Bot Moto dealer and get yours today!

Since Thursday last week I've been at my nephews place. Just got home today. I had no way of accessing my email for the duration of the visit, and that is my one way into PFDLives, and the Fantasies Attic. So it is good to be back for a little while. Seeing the artworks of Kathryn and Saphirewild posted warms my heart. Thank you Ladies!

Llola, I think we all have a lot of unused content. I know I do. Being a freebie nut, I tend to grab any free product I can use in my renders when I find them. Some are textures and poses for items that remain in my wish list at DAZ and other sites. Those, I need to get the items they are made for.

Kathryn, I love the way you do your renders to bring out the best look in the subjects of the images. As always yours is well done!
Thank you!

Thanks Llola and Agent. All the background cloud is from the HDRI I used to light the scene with only a few actual cloud props at the front to blend the peaks in.
Agent I was trying to get the look and feel of the dragon flying between closely grouped peaks, high speed airial manovers kinda thing  :hug2:

HDRI lighting is awesome, but some are so memory intensive that my PC cannot handle renders using them. I have perhaps two that can be used by me in DAZ Studio, the best being the FMEE Green Hills Sky Dome with HDRI. It won't allow X axis light aiming, but the lights is positioned to match the shadowing in the Sky Dome image. Y directional works by rotating the Lighting with the Sky Dome to keep everything matching with light direction. Z axis rotation is not any better than X axis rotation, so Y axis rotation is all that can be used successfully. All that said, the Green Hills product is still quite good looking. My other one is FMEE Sky Box 1 and 2, which are different versions of Sky Box. Both work a bit better than Green Hills as you get the mountain peak, and Dome Mountain textures in the background that can be rotated to match your own lights if you should choose to use those instead of the provided lights.
Now just today, I found in DAZ's latest freebies a couple of light sets that help with mood and style, to bring a sense of feeling to your renders. Can't wait to download, install, and test the new stuff! Apparently those two items were made for DAZ Studio 3 Advanced. That works in al later versions of DAZ Studio still so I grabbed them!
Funny how the discussion went to lighting around the same time I was grabbing those freebies at DAZ! AWESOME!

I have a few of the FMEE domes and HDRIs and they tend to be my go to for outside lighting. Like you for a while there I only had one or two I knew would actually work then I found a bunch of free ones and after working out how to load them into Daz's environment settings under the render tab had a lot more options, they however do not always work so well as backgrounds as the aspect ratio can be wildly off but there are ways round that too

I wish listed the one you provided a link to. It is by the very vendor I got the ones I have from. I think that vendor knows how to create great HDRIs. What I like is that the ones I have and the one you used are made for Iray, 3DL, and the Poser render engine, which I think is Cycles.
Woo Hoo!

I wish I'm rending as usual, but for the moment it's not really the case. Even if I'm trying to do a scene for the June contest on FA.

Agent, I have few motos - I mean bikes - in my runtime. I should find a way to do something with them... one day  :peep: :tearlaugh:

This is a reduced version of my latest image. I uploaded the full sized version to DeviantArt, and it got a favorite in less that 15 minutes! "WOW!" is all I can say! This one is a continuation of my image series about the SS Leviathan.

SS Leviathan Delivers Neutronium

Procyon A-4 is a water world, with a few thousand islands of various size. The planet was a perfect world to build Neutronium Alloy Refineries. These refineries are specially built to handle the extremely volatile nature of neutronium, ( if neutronium cannot be kept in its compressed form, it will expand explosively, producing an explosion that makes the nuclear explosions of the 20th century look tame by comparison). The reason Neutronium in its natural environment (neutron stars) is kept contained by its own collective gravity, so that it cannot expand. Such is the nature of a Neutron Star. Technology had to be created, through trial and error, to make harvesting neutronium possible. The first attempts at extracting neutronium were disastrous. As the extraction device escaped the gravity of the neutron star, the compression of the device could not contain the neutronium, which was barely the size of a grain of salt. The result was practically an immediate violent expansion of that small amount, destroying the extraction device, and anything within 250,000 miles of the event. It took the merging of technology from several ISA members to finally build an extractor that could contain the neutronium under adequate pressure. The first successful extraction was a surprise, and the developers were still fearful that there would still be an explosive expansion. But they got it to the special lab, where the experiments were to be conducted. That lab worked well for several tests, but was destroyed by a mistake that was made by one of the scientists working on alloying the neutronium with super-metals. His mistake cost him and everybody at the lab their lives, and nearly half of the collected experimental result reports were lost. A new lab was built with safeguards built in, and it survived until a successful alloy for neutronium was developed. Also exotic energy was found that could add strength to the containment compression systems that could now keep the neutronium from being able to expand so violently. Eventually, the advances made brought with it the ability to build very resilient ships from the alloys developed. Thus ships like the neutronium harvester SS Leviathan were built, with neutronium alloy containment and extraction devices included.
Now, in the 28th century, Neutronium is harvested, refined, and alloyed with special super-metals, which is used to build ships, the refineries, and all containment and extraction devices. How do they keep the nature of uncompressed neutronium in check? By using the energy that is produced naturally by the neutronium, to reverse the violent expansion rate to compression against itself. This only needs about 0.0001% of the energy produced, allowing all other systems to use the rest of that energy in whatever way it is needed.
The SS Leviathan is delivering Neutronium to one of the Neutronium Alloy Refineries on Procyon A-4. The stealth ship SS Invisible is patrolling the area, to ensure that enemy forces are not able to launch an attack on the refinery; as there have been a few attacks on other refineries on the planet. Little damage was done in these attacks, but there were enough damages to cause those refineries to shut down until repairs could be made. This of course slowed the production rate significantly, and that is why stealth ships were called in to protect the planet. Attacks are always timed to coincide with a neutronium delivery, as the facility will be its most vulnerable at that time. The stealth ships have cloaking technology, and their weapons are hyperdriven neutronium pellets the size of a hydrogen atom, that is contained by a very thin layer of the weakest neutronium alloy. When it hits at that speed, the result is obliteration of the target, to the point of being converted completely into energy. To get the pellets launched, a hyperspeed railgun is used, and the pellet will maintain that speed until it hits a target. The stealth ships have become feared by the enemy, as they can handle enemy ships that are thousands of times their size.

My first 3D application ever was MS Office PowerPoint 2007. I got the Student version of MS Office, as I was in college at the time. I dug deep into PowerPoint, and discovered things that were possible in it that allowed me to create 3D models. I could only use those models in PowerPoint to make the images, but my Computer Professor was amazed that I found something he did not know about in the app. Before I graduated from college, I had discovered DAZ 3D in a search for 3D art programs. Bryce 7.1 Pro was available for free, and I snatched it up fast. So using it, I got into modeling the Bryce way, and did pretty good. I could not get the materials to export intact with exported models, and it took me a while to learn why. While Bryce can use those materials and make them look great, it has no UV Mapper built in. Without UV Maps, materials won't work well with exporting.
DAZ then put up the offer of a bundle that included Bryce 7.1 Pro, Hexagon 2.5, and DAZ Studio 4.0, all for free! Of course I grabbed the bundle, even though I already had Bryce 7.1 Pro. I was disappointed with Hexagon, and found another free 3D application that included modeling and a UV Mapper; Blender (cannot recall the version). Blender proved to be rather difficult as well, but at least the modeling was easier to understand. Then I discovered Wings3D.
Wings3D is the easiest modeling app I have ever found, and it is always free, just like Blender. It has a much different approach in use, based on context sensitive menus that depend on which mode you are currently working with. The modes are General (all four icons highlighted), Body, Face, Edge, and Vertex. Each mode has its own popup menu, accessed by right clicking on the mouse. In Body mode you can find the UV Mapping tool, which will bring up another window to give you the choices of how you wish to UV Map the selected model. Once that choice is made you will get the Map window itself, which can allow you to arrange your map the way you want it.
The latest version of Wings3D includes Boolean Test in Body mode, which has three different ways to do Boolean operations.

That happens to me too... if I don't post or look at the thread for a few days... Maybe it's doing the same thing for you?

I use Silo for my modeling, its great how they have got it back into development now and have added to it without compromising its simplicity.
Hehe and here I am waiting for it to be warm enough to consider a night in a tent

I know about the email lag. For example, I got 2 from PFDLives June Showoff Thread 2022 since my last post. Obviously there are a few more posts than that in this thread. This is what I have been getting for several months from here as well as other sites, including The Fantasies Attic. I think it's something to do with the internet itself.

I think Silo isn't free... not sure how much it is... But I'm not paying for something I'm not sure I will use anymore... I've got quite a few programs that I've spent money on... and never use :(... Lots of them won't even work with the newest version of windows.  All that money lost.  (sighs)... I guess I'll keep playing with Hexagon... Little by little I am learning it... slooooooooowly (I've got an old woman brain now)  lol

No Silo is not free but is its one of the cheapest paid for modeling apps out there, I totally get not wanting to spend money on something you might look at once and never use again so if you have something free that will do what you want go hard  :hug2:

I am not getting any at all from here Agent, get all the ones from the Attic and elsewhere with no lag but here its nothing not even a few days late, just nada. No matter I have pinned PFD to the book mark bar and will just manually check in now and then

DreamWeaver, your latest image sparked a notion in my head. Books can be a type of vehicle that take you on a journey, either adventurous, or educational, among other things. Well done!

Currently it $135.00 normally $159.00 but there are often sales and coupons than bring it even lower.

Eeeep... $135 is a bit much for me right now... Thanks though... I'll still play with Hexagon... I'm learning it... bit by bit ;)  Got a few things in the works for the FA Holiday Gifts page this November and December... but... in the mean time... summer finally made it to Ohio and that means camping!  yay

You can follow some tutos by Micheus Vieira for Wings3d. Simple but efficient. For example that one is for Chritmas time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzEW936izCE

He is kind of the guru for W3D. All his tutos for that program are here

Otherwise, you have good infos (and written ones) here

Good one Agent about books and their journey... Wonderful way of looking at the challenge.  (thumbzzzzzzzzzz up!)
Was hoping someone would post an image this month with a book in use as part of the subject of the image. it was something a favorite teacher told her class when I was in school, and I took it to heart. Always was an avid reader from the time I first learned to read.

Interesting story about reading that I will tell you here.
Mom was a member of a mail order book club, and she got a set of encyclopedias (A-Z), and it came with another set of 10 books (produced by Colliers) that had several fictional stories in them plus several educational articles. I read every encyclopedia and every one of the ten bonus books cover to cover. By the time I was in the fourth grade, I had educated myself rather well. Granted, there were things I did not yet understand in each of those volumes, but there was a lot that brought me understanding as well. It was in the bonus set of books that I read "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass", my two favorite Fairytales.

One other thing I got into at that time was Comic Books. The first Comic Book I ever bought with my own money was "Spiderman 1", on the day it was first released. At that time, the Marvel name was not on the comics produced by that company, but the company did adopt the name later. I wish I still had that comic book in pristine condition, because "Spiderman 1" is the most valuable one for collectors of all time! If only I had known how much value it would gain through the years. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Llola, along with the tutorials mentioned by Aelin, you might also like those by David Brinnen. He helped my learn things about Wings3D I would never have discovered otherwise. He has a knack for figuring out ways to use the tools in Wings3D and in Bryce 7.1 Pro that can take your work to greater levels. I have learned a lot from him. He also makes his tutorials very easy to understand and follow.
Another person that has tutorials for Wings3D is V-ScorpianC (not sure if I got the spelling right on that). She also makes her tutorials easy to understand and follow.

Thanks Agent... This whole subject has DeJa Vue for me... lol.  Seems like we talked about all this a year or two back.  I still have the Wings3D loaded on my old computer which hubby now uses.  I'm sure all those tutorials are on it too.  I just don't have the time right now to learn anything new.  Maybe this winter... summer is here and we have camping/traveling to do... seems like other things are taking priority for me right now... I'm sure I'll dabble again.  Thanks one and all for your input.

Last day for artwork... July starts tomorrow... I've only had time to post a render a day for Daz... I'm at Day #25... I'll post those when the contest is ended.  So for this month... I'm afraid I have no more postings.  Stay well everyone... See you in the July thread!!!  Hugzzzzzzzzzzz
